1. Who we are

2. What we collect

Depending on how you use Observinio, we may process:

  • Email address — when you subscribe to degradation or weekly summary alerts
  • Alert preferences — selected models, regions, probe mode (standard or streaming), and alert types
  • Contact form data — your name, email, and message when you write to us
  • Subscription tokens — hashed tokens used to confirm subscriptions and manage preferences without a password
  • Browser localStorage — optional key observinio_subscriber_email to prefill the subscribe form on your device
  • Server logs — IP address, user-agent, request timestamps, and similar metadata for security and abuse prevention

We do not require a password or full account profile. We do not sell personal data.

3. How we use your data

  • Send alert emails you opted into (degradation and optional weekly summaries)
  • Confirm subscriptions via double opt-in and provide manage/unsubscribe links
  • Respond to contact form messages
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Legal basis (GDPR)

For subscribers in the EU/EEA, we process alert-related data on the basis of consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you subscribe and confirm your email. Contact form messages are processed to respond to your request (Article 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest, or Article 6(1)(b) where applicable). Server logs are processed for security (Article 6(1)(f)).

Public latency measurements do not contain personal data. You may withdraw consent for alerts at any time by unsubscribing; withdrawal does not affect prior lawful processing.

5. Retention

  • Subscriptions: kept while active; removed or anonymized after you unsubscribe, subject to backup retention
  • Contact messages: retained as long as needed to handle your inquiry and for reasonable record-keeping
  • Server logs: typically retained for a limited period unless needed for security investigations
  • Measurements: kept indefinitely without personal identifiers

6. Processors and transfers

We use trusted service providers to operate Observinio, including:

  • SendGrid — transactional and alert email delivery
  • Vercel / MongoDB Atlas — hosting and database infrastructure
  • Pushover — forwarding contact form notifications to the operator

Some processors may process data outside the EU/EEA. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms.

7. Cookies and local storage

Observinio v1 uses essential localStorage only (to remember your subscribe email on your device). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels on the public site.

8. Your rights

If you are in the EU/EEA, UK, or other jurisdictions with similar laws, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

9. United States notice

We do not sell personal information as defined under applicable US state privacy laws. California and other US residents may contact us to request access or deletion of personal information we hold about them.

10. Children

Observinio is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will delete the data promptly.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS, hashed tokens, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date indicates the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
